Israel has decided to cancel the diplomatic status of Norway's representatives to the Palestinian Authority in response to its recognition of the State of Palestine.

According to the Hebrew website "Yedioth Ahronoth," Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday morning that "Israel will not allow eight diplomats at the Norwegian embassy in Tel Aviv to continue working as representatives of Norway to the Palestinian Authority."

The website indicated that the message was delivered to the Norwegian embassy's commissioner today, who was summoned to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Norway leads the donors' conference responsible for providing aid to the Palestinian Authority, and the Israeli decision could harm the European country's efforts to mobilize assistance.

On Wednesday, Israel decided to cancel the agreement that stipulated transferring tax revenue collected from the Palestinian Authority to Norway.

The Israeli I24 channel reported that the decision comes as a reaction to Norway's recognition of an independent Palestinian state last month.

The decision also comes in response to statements made by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who criticized Israel.
