Hamas denied today the accuracy of what was published by the London newspaper "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" regarding the fate of leader Mohammed Deif, asserting that the information attributed to what was described as a source in the movement is not accurate.

The newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat quoted informed sources from Hamas stating that the leadership of the movement inside and outside the Gaza Strip received new indications confirming the assassination of Mohammed Deif, the overall leader of the "Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades," the military wing of the movement, which is something Israel had previously announced, but Hamas denied it.

Sources from Hamas confirm: New indications suggest the assassination of Mohammed Deif

The sources stated that some figures who were close to Deif confirmed after the resumption of communication with them and with the leadership of the movement that contact has been lost since the operation that targeted him alongside Raef Salama, the commander of the Khan Younis Brigade in "Qassam," on July 13, 2024, in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The disappearance and mutilations increase doubts about Deif's fate after an Israeli raid in Khan Younis

According to the sources, these figures conveyed a written message confirming the loss of contact with Deif, and that he had actually been found days after the attack in the location of the targeting with half of a body that largely belongs to Deif, but it could not be confirmed at that time due to the mutilations that affected the remains of the body. The sources indicated that those samples confirmed to the figures responsible for Deif's security that the half body does indeed belong to him, but the mutilations inflicted on the body kept raising doubts among some of his close ones and his family that he might have truly been assassinated, but with the prolonged absence and loss of communication with him, it became clear to the leadership of "Qassam" that he was indeed killed.

The sources clarified that the reason for the delay in receiving messages confirming Deif's assassination to the leadership of the movement is the security reality, the difficulty of communication between the leadership of the movement, and the reliance on human resources to convey the messages, in addition to many complex circumstances related to Deif's nature, movements, and disappearance, noting that he had surrounded himself with complete secrecy for decades, a situation that led some to call him the "man of shadows."
Hamas renewed its call to the media to seek accuracy, credibility, and professionalism in reporting news, and not to rely on unreliable sources.
