The spokesperson for the World Health Organization, Tarik Jasarevic, warned today, Tuesday, that the dismantling of the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, and its deterioration is considered a devastating blow to the health system in the sector, especially as the facilities in the south operate beyond their maximum capacity and are barely able to receive more patients.. noting that the organization led, yesterday Monday, and the day before Sunday, two delegations to the medical complex to save the lives of patients, where 32 critically ill patients were transferred, including two children.

Jasarevic said, at a press conference today in Geneva, that Nasser Hospital lacks electricity or running water, and medical waste and garbage form a fertile ground for diseases, noting that the organization's staff described the destruction surrounding the hospital as unparalleled.

He pointed out that there are still about 130 patients and injured people and no less than 15 doctors and nurses inside the hospital, while the World Health Organization staff transferred the only remaining patient in the intensive care unit, which no longer functions, to another part of the complex, where other patients receive basic care.

The WHO spokesperson said: The organization fears for the safety of the remaining patients and health workers in the hospital, warning that further disruption of life-saving care for patients and the injured will lead to more deaths.. stressing the necessity of facilitating more patient referrals amid ongoing hostilities.

He explained that patients were transferred to Gaza European Hospital in Khan Yunis, Al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Gaza area, and the field hospitals affiliated with the International Medical Corps of the UAE and Indonesia in Rafah.

He warned that any additional damage to the Nasser Medical Complex, especially with the continuation of the raid, would mean further delays in restoring its functions.. noting that the large medical warehouse at the hospital was burned, in addition to the supplies provided by the World Health Organization and its partners, and the daily medical supplies warehouse was partially damaged, and the prosthetics reconstruction center supported by the WHO, located inside the hospital, ceased operations.

The WHO spokesperson pointed out that high-risk missions were carried out in close partnership with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), while the team also provided limited supplies of essential medicines and food for the remaining patients and staff who were cut off from aid.

Jasarevic renewed the organization's call to all parties to respect international humanitarian law and the principles of caution, distinction, and proportionality, and to ensure sustainable access so that hospitals can continue to provide life-saving care.
