Many people were arrested in Amman amid clashes between police and Jordanian protesters marching in front of the Israeli embassy to protest the Israeli military operation in Gaza.

Some protesters shout "We do not want a Zionist embassy on Jordanian soil," while others scream slogans calling for the return of Hamas and attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians.

The protesters expressed their desire to go to the border and kidnap Zionist soldiers for revenge... revenge... oh Hamas and they call for bombing Tel Aviv.

The authorities had sent riot police to protesters gathered at the Kaloti Mosque in the capital who were planning to march in front of the heavily fortified Israeli embassy.

One witness said many protesters were beaten and many were arrested while trying to break the heavy police cordon around the embassy. The police deployed tear gas to deter protesters from storming the embassy.

Jordan has allowed peaceful protesters to gather outside the Israeli embassy daily, but the authorities say they cannot tolerate any attempt to storm the embassy or incite civil unrest or attempt to reach a border area with the West Bank or Israel.

Israel, for its part, has withdrawn most of its ambassadors from many Arab and foreign countries since the events of October 7 due to security precautions.
