The latest report from the Canadian Interagency Wildfire Centre states that hundreds of wildfires are currently raging across Canada, with over 800 active fires, including 223 out of control.
Scientists have noted that this year's fires are unusually widespread, affecting areas from the west coast to the Atlantic provinces in the east and the northern parts of the country. The fires have also impacted Jasper National Park in western Canada, where they have been raging for weeks.
The park's official website has stated that the national park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site has been closed due to the wildfires.
All camping events have been canceled until September 3, and the fires have damaged an area exceeding 33,000 hectares.
Residents of Jasper were only able to return to their homes last Friday for the first time after an evacuation order was issued about a month ago.
