The Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz" revealed today, Monday, that the summit that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold with U.S. President Donald Trump tomorrow, Tuesday, at the White House aims to secure full U.S. support for continuing to eliminate Hamas.

The newspaper said, quoting a member of the accompanying delegation with Netanyahu on his trip to Washington, that Netanyahu will not commit to implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza without eliminating Hamas.

Last Saturday, Netanyahu's office stated in a statement that negotiations for the second phase would begin on Monday with the meeting in Washington between Netanyahu and Steve Peace, Trump's envoy to the Middle East.

The newspaper mentioned that the source confirmed Israel's refusal to fulfill its commitments in the second phase of the prisoners and ceasefire agreement with Hamas, as well as the complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the "Philadelphi" corridor on the border between Egypt and Gaza without achieving this goal of eliminating the movement.

The newspaper clarified that Israeli officials aim for the negotiations in the second phase to lead to a broader regional normalization process.

Those close to Netanyahu expressed optimism about the meetings taking place among Palestinian factions in Cairo, which indicate that Hamas is ready to concede power in Gaza in one way or another.

A ceasefire agreement and a three-phase prisoner exchange, each lasting 42 days, began on January 19 of last year, with the first phase involving negotiations to start the second and third phases, mediated by Qatar and Egypt with the support of the United States.
