On February 1, 2025, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held an emergency meeting with the heads of provincial and territorial governments to discuss the response to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian imports. During the meeting, the importance of unity and solidarity between the federal government and provincial governments in facing this serious challenge was emphasized.
Moreover, Canadian media reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would hold an emergency meeting with the leaders of the country's regions on Saturday to discuss potential steps Canada could take in response to the tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to a report by Canadian CTV, this meeting comes in the wake of Trump's signing of an order imposing a 25% tariff on exports from Canada and Mexico, and 10% on exports from China.
The meeting is expected to discuss the economic implications of these tariffs on the Canadian economy, particularly in sectors such as steel and aluminum, as well as the possibility of taking countermeasures to protect the country's trade and economic interests.
