The Associated Press reported that the International Football Federation (FIFA) has deducted six points from Canada in the Olympic women's football rankings and suspended three coaches for one year in a drone spying scandal.

The news of the decision follows the Canadian Olympic Committee's move to dismiss the head coach of the women's national football team, Bev Priestman, for the remainder of the Olympic Games in Paris after the New Zealand Olympic Committee filed an official complaint regarding a drone spotted filming the women’s football team during practice on July 22.

The local police detained the alleged drone operator, Joseph Lombardi, who was described as an "unauthorized analyst for Canada Soccer," and who subsequently received an eight-month suspended prison sentence and was sent home with assistant coach Jasmin Mander.

Priestman, Mander, and Lombardi's names appeared in FIFA's statement announcing the sanctions.

The Canadian Olympic Committee apologized to New Zealand and stated that assistant coach Andy Spence will replace Priestman for the remainder of this year's matches.
