Despite the warning of extreme cold in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba province, families of the residents in that Canadian city showed their support for the Palestinian people by flying kites in Saint Vital Park on January 14.

This demonstration was part of a global campaign of events that took place in other parts of the world, which also organized kite flights in support of Gaza, as well as demonstrations in various cities in Canada calling for a ceasefire in those Palestinian lands being bombed indiscriminately.

It is an international event coinciding with the passage of 100 days of the war in the Middle East.

For her part, Pascale Novicki, from the Family Actions for Palestine organization, Family Actions 4 Palestine in Winnipeg, said she wanted to organize an event targeting families and children, where the task of the organization was to create a safe and enjoyable space where youth can express their support for the Palestinian people.

She said she was moved by the families who participated in the event despite the weather. She explained that it was very cold outside, but our hearts are warm today.

Once their kites were decorated, the families were directed to a field to fly them. Despite the light wind, many of the tails were able to fly.

Also, according to Tareq Abdul Aziz, it is difficult to explain the Middle East issue to his two children, as this Palestinian wanted to participate in the family event so that these children continue to understand the reality that Palestinians live in Gaza.

He said these challenges concern basic human rights, not religion. It is not very complicated. From this basic viewpoint, a 5-year-old child can understand what is happening.

Abdul Aziz added that this type of event can help combat the dehumanization of Palestinians.

As for Mia Shorbion, one of the participants in the demonstration, this event is a way to highlight the issue, and to show children that helping people who are suffering and who are far from us is still possible and at the same time a productive fun.
