Report: Despite the growth slowing to 7%, the average rental prices in Canada reached $2,185 during the month of June.

A new report has indicated that the average rent requested for a home in Canada reached $2,185 in June, an increase of seven percent compared to last year, although it represents the slowest annual growth rate in 13 months.

The report issued by Urbanation and Rentals.ca, which analyzes monthly listings from the latter's network, noted that the average requested rents decreased by 0.8 percent from May - the largest month-over-month drop since early 2021 and unusual compared to typical monthly increases at this time of year.

According to the report, the average rent requested for a one-bedroom unit in Canada was $1,918 in June, an increase of 7.7 percent from last year, while the average asking price for a two-bedroom unit was $2,301, an increase of 9.6 percent.

Overall, the rents requested for rented apartments for this purpose jumped by 11 percent compared to the previous year, reaching an average of $2,121.

Meanwhile, rents for residential apartments, which averaged $2,320, increased by 2.6 percent.

The majority of provinces recorded year-over-year increases in rental requests for purpose-built rentals and residential apartments, led by Saskatchewan with a 22.1 percent increase to reach $1,339. Ontario saw a decline of 1.3 percent from last year to $2,382, while rents in British Columbia also decreased.
