Five months before the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, the French television station "BFM" revealed that a personal computer and USB flash drives containing the security plans for the Olympic Games of the Paris municipality were stolen from a train at the Gare du Nord station, and an investigation into the incident was opened.

An employee of the Paris City Council filed a complaint after noticing the theft of his bag when he boarded a train heading to Creil (Oise) from Gare du Nord station in Paris, according to a source in the French police.

Sensitive information

At 7:30 PM, this 56-year-old engineer opened the door of the Gare du Nord police station (10th arrondissement) to report the theft he was subjected to, before explaining in detail the contents of his bag.

The engineer said: In the bag, there is a professional computer and two USB keys (flash drives) containing "sensitive" information.

The French station said these concern the security plans affecting the roads and especially traffic during the Olympic Games.

The Paris municipality plans to deploy nearly two thousand personnel, including the majority of municipal police officers, throughout the Olympic Games period (July 26 to August 11).

According to the French police, the second flash drive is unencrypted and does not contain any security plan.

Investigation opened

According to preliminary investigations, the theft occurred between 6:30 PM and 7 PM while the victim was sitting on a train stopped at platform number 18 at Gare du Nord station.

The engineer indicated in his complaint that he placed his bag in a compartment above his seat before noticing its theft while preparing to change trains.

Investigators from regional transport security responsible for the investigations reported that surveillance footage from the train station is being used.
