The Civil Defense Office in the Mexican state said that a plane carrying four Canadian parachutists made an emergency landing on a beach in Oaxaca state in southern Mexico on Sunday, resulting in the death of a 62-year-old man who was on the beach at the time.

The office said in a statement that the plane was forced to land on a populated part of the Pacucho beach in the famous resort of Puerto Escondido on the Pacific Ocean, adding that the victim's wife, who was on the beach next to him, was unharmed.

Footage from Puerto Global showed the damaged plane on the beach after colliding with what was said to be a turtle rescue center.

The Civil Defense statement did not provide further details about the landing process or the identities of those involved, noting that investigations are ongoing. It added that no one else on the beach was injured.

The statement added that those on board the plane, including the four Canadians who were parachuting, aged between 35 and 60, and a 40-year-old Mexican man, were taken out of the plane and transferred for medical treatment, and their condition is stable.

State Governor Salomon Jara said in a post on the X site that resources were mobilized to assist those injured who were on board the plane.

He added, "To the family of the deceased, we will provide all necessary support and accompany them in facing their irreplaceable loss."
