Canadian Housing Minister Sean Fraser and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Marc Miller stated that the federal government is currently studying the stabilization of the number of people arriving in Canada annually along with the population growth in Canada.

The federal government had announced its decision regarding its latest immigration plan to increase the number of immigrants and permanent residents that Canada receives each year to 500,000 residents by 2025.

Meanwhile, the Ministers of Immigration and Housing mentioned in yesterday's meeting a decision regarding setting immigration levels to Canada, especially since immigration played a fundamental role during the economic recovery period from the coronavirus, and the decision to double the reception of immigrants played a strong role and was a model and prevention against economic contraction caused by delays in many files, especially the healthcare and social services files. However, the housing crisis currently experienced by Canadians forces the government to withdraw its decision, and this concerns the number of temporary immigrants that Canada receives annually.

Miller had announced about two months ago the stabilization of the number of permanent residents that Canada receives at 500,000 immigrants during 2026 and the same number for 2025.

Miller and Fraser added that the federal government is ready to take more measures if universities and post-secondary educational institutions do not ensure the housing needs of international students.
