Ottawa – Arab Canada News
In an emotional farewell message, Liberal MP Chandra Arya announced today his decision not to run again in the federal elections, thus concluding his parliamentary career that has spanned since 2015 as a representative of the Nepean riding in Ottawa.
Arya said in his message posted on his official platforms: “It has been a great honor and a deep responsibility to serve the people of Nepean and all Canadians under the dome of Parliament.” He added: “Every day I have strived to perform my role with integrity and empathy, with a profound sense of duty, even when the cost was political or personal.”
A Diagnosis of the Canadian Reality and Proposing Radical Solutions
Alongside his farewell words, Arya made sure to deliver a candid political message reflecting his concern about the economic challenges facing the country, pointing out that Canada is going through a “crucial turning point” as a result of external pressures, notably the trade tensions with the United States, as well as “accumulated structural crises” domestically.
Among the key risks he pointed out:
The absence of retirement plans for around 13 million working Canadians.
A decline in working-class incomes by over 25% compared to higher and lower income groups.
An expansion of the wealth gap and the cost of living, especially in housing, threatening younger generations with the loss of stability opportunities.
A Vision for the National Economy
Arya called for adopting an ambitious economic model inspired by the experiences of countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea, proposing three main steps:
Imposing credit guidelines on banks to support productive sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure.
Mandating Canadian pension funds to invest at least 40% of their funds within Canada to support vital projects.
Implementing a citizenship-based tax system to ensure that Canadians living abroad contribute to funding essential services.
A Call to Voters
The outgoing MP concluded his message with an open call to Canadians to continue pressing for the adoption of these policies through their new representatives, stating: “The choices we make today will determine the future of Canada for generations to come. I have been proud to serve my country, and I will remain a believer in the strength and potential of the Canadian people.”
