The Canadian women's basketball team has officially qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

After the Olympic qualifying tournaments in Hungary, the Canadian team managed to secure third place in the standings and qualify for the Olympics.

This came after Spain managed to defeat Hungary, thus Canada secured third place after advancing 1-2 over three games.

The Canadian team opened the tournament well by defeating the host Hungary 6-55, then they lost twice to Spain (60-55) and Japan (86-82).

On the last day of the tournament, Canada was ahead of Hungary in the standings for the final qualifying spots.

All that had to happen was for Spain to win over the Hungarians, as Canada hosted the tiebreaker
between the two teams.

The match was tough, as Hungary led 64-50 before the start of the fourth quarter, then Spain outperformed Hungary by 23 points in the last quarter to complete the comeback.

This will be the eighth time Canada participates with a women's basketball team in the Olympics; in 2020, the team won once and lost twice during the group stage and failed to qualify for the quarterfinals. The highest level achieved by the Canadian women's team in the tournament was fourth place in 1984.

The women will join the Canadian men at the Olympics, who qualified for the tournament for the first time since 2000.
