The Canadian Statistics Agency reported on Thursday that the average income of Canadians was $1,253 per week during June - a figure consistent with previous months, but still four percent higher than the same period last year.
People worked an average of about 33.5 hours each week, which is consistent with last month and up 0.6 percent year-over-year.
Meanwhile, there were 2.6 unemployed persons for each vacant job, which is slightly higher than the previous month. This ratio has widened for five consecutive months and has generally remained so since July 2022, when the ratio was one to one.
The number of job vacancies rose in a few sectors:
Administrative and support services and waste management and remediation saw an increase of 16 percent.
Transportation and warehousing saw an increase of 12.4 percent.
Educational services saw an increase of 16.3 percent.
Information and cultural industries saw an increase of 54.6 percent.
Arts, entertainment, and recreation saw an increase of 16.3 percent.
The following industries saw fewer job vacancies during June:
Accommodation and food services saw a decrease of 10.8 percent.
Finance and insurance saw a decrease of 20.9 percent.
In light of these changes, the overall job vacancy rate remained unchanged in June, compared to May.
