Canadian health announced an increase in the number of infections caused by Streptococcus bacteria "A", and death tolls have been recorded with the number of deaths reaching 6 cases in Ontario at least. British Columbia and Manitoba also reported discovering new cases of the disease; raising the number of infection cases.
The official spokesperson of Canadian health stated in an email that early laboratory data showed that infection rates with this type of bacteria
were higher than pre-pandemic rates, specifically among children under 15 years old.
It was observed that the microbiology laboratory managed to record about 4600 or more infection cases during 9 January 2023, representing the highest total annual registration in Canada.
Regarding the nature of the infection, its symptoms are usually mild and accompanied by throat inflammation, which is treated using antibiotics while severe and fatal cases remain less common.
It is worth mentioning that this infection causes lung inflammations and may lead to what is called toxic shock syndrome; where the bacteria produce toxins that cause the body's organ functions to cease, and one person dies out of every ten infected.
