Calgary is set to witness today, Monday, the signing of official cooperation agreements between Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford, in a move aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two provinces in a number of priority areas.
According to CP24, the agreements are expected to include partnerships related to infrastructure development, supporting the energy sector, and exchanging expertise in economic and developmental policies.
The Government of Alberta stated in a statement that the agreements reflect the commitment of the two provinces to strengthen “national economic unity” and to unify efforts to address common challenges in energy, environment, and labor issues.
For its part, the Ontario Premier's office described the step as “an opportunity to exchange best practices and coordinate initiatives that benefit the residents of both provinces and Canada as a whole.”
This meeting comes at a time when the country is experiencing a wide debate over developing energy resources, especially with the increasing pressures related to supply security and achieving emissions reduction targets.
The officials are expected to hold a joint press conference after the signing to clarify the details of the agreements and upcoming implementation plans.
