The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported today, Sunday, that a soldier threw a smoke bomb at the Ministry of Defense office in the Tel Hashomer camp east of Tel Aviv and then fled.
The newspaper explained that the Israeli army is investigating a report of a sound bomb being thrown at the entrance of the Ministry of Defense building.
The Ministry of Defense reported that "a disabled person from the Israeli army, known for previous violent incidents, arrived at the ministry facility in Tel Hashomer an hour ago and threw a suspicious object that caused an explosion in the facility's parking area. The object exploded in an open area without causing injuries or damage."
"During the incident, a security guard fired shots into the air."
The suspect has a history of serious violent incidents against employees of the rehabilitation department at the Ministry of Defense, including death threats.
Later, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority announced that the incident did not result in any injuries, while the soldier was arrested.
In a separate context, the newspaper reported that a forest fire in the Valley of the Cross in Jerusalem spread on Sunday afternoon to the area surrounding the Israel Museum. As a precautionary measure, staff were evacuated, and firefighting teams, accompanied by six firefighting aircraft, managed to prevent the flames from reaching the museum's walls and entering the building.
Initially, the fire spread from the forest and ignited one of the museum buildings. Firefighting teams acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings. After an hour of tense moments, the Israel Museum clarified that "there is no danger to the artworks, and there are no injuries or damage."
Although the fire is now under control, firefighting efforts continue, and the police are directing traffic in the area. Authorities said: "We ask drivers to avoid the area and choose alternative routes."
The Israel Museum added: "The flames spread from the adjacent Valley of the Cross and caused initial damage to the roof of the youth wing building, but firefighters were able to fully contain it. Additionally, everyone was evacuated from the museum building as a precautionary measure."
