Chilean President Gabriel Boric said before the parliament in Santiago that Chile will join South Africa in the legal case presented to the International Court of Justice that accuses Israel of committing acts of genocide during its military aggression in the Gaza Strip.
Boric stated on Saturday: "We will never cease to be outraged by the random and entirely disproportionate actions of the Israeli armed forces against innocent civilians, especially Palestinian women and children".
He added that Chile will join the lawsuit filed by South Africa and will support it.
Boric also condemned the attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel on October 7, and called for the release of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
He said: "I do not accept having to choose between barbaric acts".
Chile called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and for the recognition of the two states - Israel and Palestine - in a post on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' page on the "X" platform.
South Africa had filed a legal case in The Hague at the end of last year.
The International Court issued a temporary ruling demanding that Israel take all measures to prevent acts of genocide and allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians.

The court ordered at the end of last month to immediately stop the Israeli aggression in Rafah in southern Gaza Strip.

Israel rejected the allegations of committing acts of genocide, stating that it was exercising its right to self-defense following the attacks of October 7.
