Joe Biden's name was not on the ballot, but history is likely to remember Kamala Harris's resounding defeat as his loss as well. As Democrats attempt to re-elect him after the decisive victory achieved by the elected American president Donald Trump, some of the vice president's supporters express their frustration with Biden's decision to seek re-election as late as this summer—despite long-standing voter concerns about his age and discomfort regarding the post-pandemic inflation as well as the border between the United States and Mexico—all of which have led to his party relinquishing the White House.

For his part, Andrew Yang, who ran against Biden in 2020 for the Democratic Party nomination and supported Harris's unsuccessful candidacy, said, "The largest share of the blame for this loss rests with President Biden."

If he had resigned in January instead of July, we might be in a completely different place."

Biden will leave office after leading the United States out of the worst pandemic in a century, rallying international support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion, and passing a $1 trillion infrastructure bill that will impact communities for years to come.

However, after having run four years ago against Trump to "restore the soul of the nation," Biden will pave the way after only one term for his immediate successor, who has overcome two impeachments, a criminal conviction, and a rebellion by his supporters.

Trump has vowed to radically reshape the federal government and overturn many of Biden's priorities.

Tom Riley, co-director of the Center for Independent and Sustainable Democracy at Arizona State University, stated, "Maybe in 20 or 30 years, history will remember Biden for some of these accomplishments."

He added, "But in the short term, I don't know that he will be able to escape the legacy of being the president who defeated Donald Trump only to see another Trump administration begin four years later."

The president remained out of sight on Wednesday for the second consecutive day, making congratulatory calls to Democratic lawmakers who won in the elections, and to Trump. Biden invited Trump to a meeting at the White House, which the elected president accepted.

Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech in the Rose Garden on Thursday regarding the elections.

He issued a statement shortly after Harris delivered her concession speech on Wednesday, praising her for running a "historic campaign" under "extraordinary circumstances."

Some senior Democrats, including three advisers to Harris's campaign, expressed their deep frustration with Biden for failing to recognize earlier in the election cycle that he was not up to the challenge.

The advisers spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to comment publicly.

Biden (81 years old) ended his re-election campaign in July after weeks of poor debate performance that plunged his party into a tailspin and raised questions about whether he still possessed the acuity and stamina to serve as a credible candidate.

However, polls conducted long before indicated that many Americans are concerned about his age.

About 77 percent of Americans in August 2023 said Biden is too old to be effective for another four years, according to a survey conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
