The Secretary-General highlighted the increasing role that artificial intelligence plays and how to leverage this role to serve humanity, according to what was published on the official UN website on Thursday.

Guterres announced the launch of a high-level advisory body on artificial intelligence last year to study how to share the benefits of this extraordinary technology while addressing its challenges simultaneously.

He clarified that dealing with artificial intelligence brings both immediate and long-term risks, and there are serious concerns regarding the concentration of artificial intelligence power in the hands of a small group of countries and companies.

The Secretary-General praised the final report of the advisory body on artificial intelligence, which included the establishment of an international scientific committee for artificial intelligence to enhance a shared understanding of its capabilities, opportunities, and risks, as well as the creation of a global fund for artificial intelligence aimed at achieving sustainable development goals, alongside the establishment of other initiatives.

He added that this report represents a "critical juncture" in the ongoing efforts to ensure that artificial intelligence serves all of humanity.
