The Vancouver police arrested 14 people for obstructing traffic and railway lines in East Vancouver on Friday.

The police stated that they began receiving calls about the protest shortly after 11 AM, with one caller reporting around 100 demonstrators blocking the intersection of Caslo Street and Grandview Highway.

Photos and videos posted on social media show a line of police officers standing in front of a group of protesters raising the Palestinian flag. In one video, an officer can be heard using a megaphone to inform the demonstrators that they have three minutes to disperse.

The police stated in a press release that the protesters "refused multiple requests" to move.

The Vancouver Police Department said in the statement: "Some members of the group became hostile towards the police."

Adding that "the 14 arrests were made on charges of 'harm and obstruction' around 2:30 PM. The police said investigators would provide recommendations to the Crown prosecutor.

VPD spokesperson Tanya Visentin stated: "Illegal protests that obstruct vital infrastructure put people's safety at risk."

She added, "Our officers acted quickly, with assistance from CN Police and Metro Vancouver Transit Police, to prevent a prolonged blockade on the train tracks and keep traffic moving."
