Heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl led to the closure of several highways in the Montreal area yesterday afternoon, and by 5 PM, power was out for more than 8,000 customers of Hydro-Québec in the 9 Montreal area.
The Canadian Environmental and Climate Change Agency (ECCC) warned of rainfall amounts between 50 to 80 mm, possibly exceeding 120 mm in some areas, along with thunderstorms.
Weather experts at ECCC also warned of potential flash flooding and water accumulation on roads, causing chaos during the afternoon rush hour.
At Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, dozens of flights were announced to be delayed or canceled.
The heavy rains hit southern Quebec and eastern Ontario as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl moved into the area.
