Judge Aalia Neelum has become the first woman to hold the position of Chief Justice in the 142-year history of the Lahore High Court.
Neelum took the oath in front of the Governor of Punjab, Saleem Haider Khan, with the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, present, according to Pakistan's Geo News site.
Neelum will become the 47th Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court since 1920 and the 54th in total since March 21, 1882, when this judicial institution was called the Lahore Chief Court.
In May, Judge Neelum was part of the Supreme Court panel that directed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to join the investigation into 121 cases registered against him.
In April 2024, Judge Neelum was among four judges of the Lahore High Court who received suspicious letters.
