After weeks of ambiguity regarding his fate, the Israeli Channel "12" reported that the leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, is still alive, pointing out that Israel recently received a sign of life from him, as he renewed his contact with the mediators, according to the British network "Sky News."
According to the Israeli channel, contact between Sinwar and the mediators had been cut off for a long time, leading to widespread belief in his death in one of the attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The channel cited sources familiar with the negotiations for the exchange of captives and the ceasefire in Gaza, indicating that Sinwar had been distant from communication because he believed that Israel was not interested in the deal.
However, the likelihood of reaching an agreement in the near future remains slim, according to the Israeli channel.
While the Israeli source confirmed that Sinwar sent messages, it did not specify the exact timing of their sending, also clarifying that these messages did not reveal any change or modification in Sinwar's position regarding the prisoner deal.
A Year of War on Gaza
The "New York Times" reported from American officials that Sinwar, after almost a year of war in Gaza, has become more entrenched in his position and more determined to drag Israel into a wide-ranging regional conflict.
According to the newspaper, American officials indicated that Sinwar's position has become more hardline in recent weeks, and that American negotiators now believe that Hamas has no intention of reaching an agreement with the Israeli occupation.
American officials confirmed Hamas's unwillingness to enter into any talks in recent weeks, pointing out that Sinwar believes a larger war will pressure Israel and its army, which could push it to reduce its operations in Gaza.
