The U.S. State Department said today, Tuesday, that Washington sent a message to Iran stating that "escalating tensions with Israel will not be in Tehran's interest."
U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller clarified that the message was sent to Iran through channels it communicates with as part of diplomatic contacts, according to Anadolu Agency.
Miller added, in his daily press conference yesterday, Monday, that the United States mentioned in its message that it would protect Israel.
He considered the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East to be "inevitable," while also explaining that the United States "will continue to work to prevent that." Miller emphasized that escalating tensions will not serve anyone's interests in the region.
The region is experiencing unprecedented tension following the assassination of the head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and the most prominent military leader in "Hezbollah," Fuad Shukr, in late July.
