4 people were killed in an Israeli bombing on the Kerem Abu Salem crossing between the Gaza Strip and the Israeli state, including the crossing manager, according to the authorities of the sector governed by Hamas.
The crossings authority and the Ministry of Health in the sector said that the crossing manager Bassam Ghaban was killed along with 3 others “in a targeting by the occupation's aircraft of the crossing facilities during work.”
Israel had approved last Friday the temporary entry of aid to Gaza through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing, thus opening a second supply route in addition to the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza.
UN Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland welcomed the Israeli measures in this regard on Tuesday, describing them as “positive” but “far from sufficient in relation to what is required to deal with the humanitarian disaster on the ground.”
UN estimates indicate that nearly 1.9 million people have been displaced in the Gaza Strip, about 85 percent of the population.
Israel declared war on Hamas in response to the unprecedented attack carried out by the movement on October 7 on its territories, which led to the death of about 1,140 people, most of them civilians, according to a count conducted by AFP based on the latest official Israeli figures.
The Israeli attack on Gaza left 20,000 dead, most of them women and children, according to the government media office affiliated with Hamas.
