The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed U.S. officials, reported that the United States has information indicating that the Russian private military company Wagner intends to supply the Lebanese Hezbollah group with an air defense system.
The newspaper stated that Wagner plans to equip Hezbollah with the Pantsir-S1 system, known to NATO as the SA-22, which uses anti-aircraft missiles and air defense weapons to intercept aircraft.
Wagner did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters. The Kremlin took control of the group, which was previously funded by the Russian government, after a short mutiny in June led by its former leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was killed in a plane crash.
