The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, "Jean-Pierre Lacroix," warned of the risk of a larger and more destructive conflict with the continued exchange of fire every day along the Blue Line, after discussing in his meetings with Israeli government and military officials the work of the truce monitoring body, as well as the United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon "UNIFIL," and the disengagement monitoring force, affirming their commitment to carrying out their mandates and efforts to prevent further escalation.
According to the United Nations Information Center, United Nations spokesperson "Stephan Dujarric" confirmed that the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations "Jean-Pierre Lacroix" emphasized in his various meetings in Lebanon during his visit to the Middle East the necessity for all parties to cease fire, recommit to Security Council Resolution 1701, and work towards reaching a lasting political and diplomatic solution.
It is worth noting that the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations visited Lebanon last weekend as part of his visit to the Middle East to inspect the UN peacekeeping missions in the region and consult with various influential political and security entities.
