The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, expressed the international organization's concern over statements by Israeli officials regarding the deportation of Palestinians to other countries under the name of "voluntary migration," noting the United Nations' rejection of any attempt aimed at changing the demographic composition in the Gaza Strip.

Griffiths affirmed, in a speech during a United Nations Security Council session on Friday evening, at Algeria's request concerning the situation of displaced Palestinians in Gaza, that the forced and collective deportation of Palestinians would be a clear violation of international law, according to the "Al Jazeera" news network.

Griffiths considered that it has become almost impossible to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, adding that "in this case, shifting the conflict southwards will force people to go to neighboring countries, and some countries have declared that they can host (those exiting Gaza), and they must be able to return according to international law."

Meanwhile, Eilis Brandeis Kerris, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, stated that the collective forced displacement began on last October 12 following the issuance of an evacuation order for the northern part of Gaza by the Israeli occupation army.

She pointed out that 90% of the society in Gaza faces acute food insecurity, noting that starving civil society is prohibited as a method of warfare.

The UN official also stressed the necessity of not preventing the return of Palestinians who were forcibly expelled from Gaza, pointing out that a strong guarantee must be provided to enable these people to return to their homes.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Griffiths indicated that the events witnessed by Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories in the past 100 days did not take civilians into account, affirming that the situation in Gaza is tragic.

The UN official noted that shelters have become overcrowded and that water and food are on the verge of running out, explaining that 134 facilities belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) were bombed; where 148 UN staff members were killed.
