The United Nations said that the number of displaced persons who have arrived in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip has reached about one million since the beginning of the occupation aggression on October 7th.

The United Nations added in its daily humanitarian report that "Rafah Governorate has now become the main refuge for the displaced, where more than one million people live in a very crowded area following the intensification of hostilities in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah, and the evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army."

By the end of 2023, according to UNRWA, the number of displaced persons in Gaza is estimated at about 1.9 million people, or nearly 85% of the total population of the Strip, including some who have been displaced several times, as families are forced to move frequently within the Strip in search of safety.

Approximately 1.4 million displaced persons live in 155 UNRWA facilities across all five governorates.

On the other hand, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reiterated that there is no safe space in Gaza.

She said in a statement: "We cannot talk about safety anywhere; people are sleeping in the streets in the open, and some have not even been able to follow evacuation orders."
