UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the UAE's contribution of $100 million to the Loss and Damage Fund during the first day of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

Abdullah bin Zayed tweeted on "X" (formerly Twitter): "We congratulate all parties on the launch of the important Loss and Damage Fund to provide an effective response to the repercussions of climate change. We are pleased to announce the UAE’s contribution of $100 million and call on all capable countries to contribute to these efforts and dedicate the spirit of solidarity among humanity."

The conference adopted a decision to establish the Loss and Damage Fund for countries most affected by climate change. The United Kingdom announced a contribution of $60 million, the United States announced a contribution of $17 million, and Japan announced a contribution of $10 million.

It is worth noting that Egypt hosted the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) from November 6 to 18, 2022, in Sharm El-Sheikh. It was an important opportunity to consider the effects of climate change in Africa, implement what was stipulated in the 2015 Paris Agreement, activate the recommendations made at the 2021 Glasgow Conference, and mobilize collective action regarding adaptation and mitigation measures for the effects of climate change.
