The General Directorate of the Turkish Coast Guard announced the closure of the Dardanelles Strait to ship passage in both directions due to bad weather conditions.
The Turkish Coast Guard statement said: "Due to bad weather conditions, the Dardanelles Strait has been closed starting from 12:15 today, Saturday local time, to ship passage in both directions."
Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds fell today, Saturday, in the strait area and western Turkey.
Meteorologists also warned of the rain moving to Istanbul after 15:00 today, which may lead to flooding in several neighborhoods of the city.
