Ontario Provincial Police hailed five men as heroes after rescuing a man from a burning car on a highway in the Toronto area earlier this week.
On Monday, the OPP responded to reports of a burning vehicle on the westbound QEW at Cawthra in Mississauga.
A video of the incident, released by the Attorney General's office Wednesday evening, showed a car appearing to swerve while smoke was seen rising from it.
The car eventually hit a ditch and the fire intensified.
The police said five men who witnessed the incident stopped and rushed to help the driver escape from the burning car.
In the video, the men were heard shouting "Hey buddy, get out of here".
A man was seen using a hammer to break the driver's side window to free the driver.
The men eventually managed to open the door and pull the 36-year-old driver from the car to safety.
Moments later, the car caught fire.
The Attorney General thanked the men for their heroic efforts in saving the driver.
The OPP tweeted saying that "a 36-year-old man from Toronto had a medical incident but is alive thanks to the heroic efforts of five men who risked their lives when the car started to burn and the driver was still inside. They opened the driver's door to rescue the driver".
The driver was not injured.
