A spokesperson for the Thai police said that at least 31 people were killed today, Thursday, in a mass shooting at a daycare center in one of the northeastern provinces of the country.
The police stated in a statement that among the victims were children and adults, adding that the assailant was a former police officer and that a manhunt is underway.
A government spokesperson said the Prime Minister has asked all agencies to take necessary measures and apprehend the perpetrator.
The rate of gun ownership in Thailand is high compared to some other countries in the region.
Mass shootings are rare in Thailand, but in 2020, a soldier killed at least 29 people and injured 57 at four different locations.
