Canada's economy added 21,000 jobs even as the labor force shrank by the same amount, according to Statistics Canada on Friday.

The data agency said the unemployment rate fell by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.2 percent.

The unemployment rate in Canada dropped to 5.2 percent last month.

This happened because although the number of new jobs was not excessively large, the increase occurred as more than 20,000 people left the labor force.

This means they chose voluntary work over not looking for a job during this month.

Before September, the economy lost jobs for three consecutive months. Even with the gains made in September, there are still 92,000 fewer people working now than in May.
