A woman from Ontario who accuses "Jacob Hoggard", former Hedley frontman, of sexual assault, is now suing him for $2.8 million. In a draft lawsuit obtained by CTV News, the victim claims that in addition to psychological suffering, she is unable to complete her education and has suffered significant physical and emotional health damage. "The victim's life has changed drastically and forever due to the above-mentioned behavior."
Hoggard was convicted of sexually assaulting the woman, who is anonymous under a publication ban, in June after a month-long trial, and he will attend the sentencing hearing on Thursday.
In a prosecution statement, the woman recounted how she met Hoggard at a WE Day event and then agreed to meet him at the Thompson Hotel in November 2016. She says that Hoggard raped her in a hotel room, strangled her, slapped her, and spat on her.
After the incident, CTV News Toronto contacted Hoggard's criminal defense lawyer for comment, but has not yet received a response.
