The Canadian men's relay team won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 meter race at the Olympics.

With Andre De Grasse running the final leg, the Canadians clocked a winning time of 37.5 seconds in Friday's final.

South Africa came in second with a time of 37.57 seconds and Great Britain finished third with a time of 37.61 seconds.

The United States, which dropped the baton on the first attempt, was disqualified.

The Canadian team, which also included Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, and Brendon Rodney, achieved a better silver medal than the one they won in Tokyo.

De Grasse said, "It’s an amazing feeling. To be with these guys, my brothers, I’ve been with them from the beginning of time, so it’s amazing."

"We’ve talked about this moment for years. It feels good to make it a reality. I’m so grateful."

The 29-year-old runner is now tied with swimmer Penny Oleksiak as the most decorated Canadian Olympian, with seven medals (two gold, two silver, and three bronze).

No member of the gold medal-winning Canadian relay team qualified for an individual final in the 100 or 200 meter races earlier this week. De Grasse has never missed a final — or a podium — in his six previous Olympic events in Rio and Tokyo.

Brown said, "Things weren't going the way we wanted on the individual level, but when we come together we become a really strong team. You can never count us out, we feel happy."
