The "Yonhap" agency reported the detention of members of a leftist student association who attempted to storm the office of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.

The agency said: "Police officers from the Yongsan district in Seoul arrested 20 members of the Korean Progressive Student Union at approximately 13:10 today, Saturday, on charges of illegally entering the building."

It also added that a group of students gathered in front of the president's office 10 minutes before the attempted storming and chanted various slogans, including demands for the president's resignation and a special investigation into the alleged financial fraud case of his wife, Kim Kun-hee.

It mentioned that the demonstration was not pre-agreed upon. Members of the student union requested to hold a meeting with administration representatives, after which they began to storm the building through gates and fences. Some of them managed to bypass the barrier, while others organized a protest in front of the barrier. The police transferred the detainees to various police stations and are currently investigating the circumstances and motives of the incident.

The United Democratic Party, which maintains a majority in the country's parliament, approved bills in the National Assembly to conduct special investigations with the president's wife, Kim Kun-hee; however, the president used his veto power against these initiatives the previous day.
