The Ottawa Police are investigating a shooting incident on Saturday night that resulted in the deaths of two men and injured six people who were attending a wedding in the southern part of the city.

Acting Inspector Amy Bond said, "Police responded to the reported gunfire at about 10:21 PM on Saturday." She added that the victims were attending a reception at a conference center located at 2900 Gifford Drive, off Hunt Club Road near Ottawa International Airport.

Four hours after the shooting, police reported that there were no further threats to public safety, and Bond clarified that no arrests had been made as of Sunday morning and there was no description of the suspect available.

Bond continued, "This violence is tragic and unacceptable; it is troubling for our entire community."

Ottawa paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps stated that the six injured patients are not in life-threatening condition.

Bond added, "The investigation is still in its early stages, and there is currently no information indicating whether any specific community is being targeted," adding that police do not currently have information suggesting the shooting should be investigated as a hate crime."

Police added on social media: “There is no evidence to suggest that the shooting was motivated by hate.”

A representative for the Infinity Conference Center, located on Gifford Drive, directed all questions to the police.

The police are withholding the identities of the two men who died in the shooting until their families are notified, stating that the victims were not residents of Ottawa.

Jessica Bradley, a local representative, described the news as "horrible," adding, "There is no place for this in our community," "There is no tolerance for this kind of violence, and I hope those involved and anyone who may know something will come forward to the police. We need to resolve this issue quickly."

These murders mark the 11th and 12th reported to police this year.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the homicide unit at 613-236-1222 x 5493. They are specifically requesting information from anyone with a mobile phone, dash camera, or security video of the area from 10 PM to 10:30 PM.

Bond said, "If you have any information or evidence you can provide, please come forward as it really helps us."
