US President Joe Biden said that Israel and Hamas must "stop" fighting to allow time for the release of detainees in the Gaza Strip, but he did not support the idea of a total ceasefire.
During a political fundraising event in Minneapolis, a protester interrupted Biden saying, "I want you to call for a ceasefire now," to which the US president replied, "I think we need a temporary pause... a pause means giving time to release the detainees."
It is worth noting that many progressive groups in America, as well as Muslims and Arabs in the country, criticized Biden for his support of Israeli military operations in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians.
The death toll from the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip since last October 7 has exceeded 8,800 killed, including about 3,648 children and 2,290 women, and 22,219 injured.
The Gaza Ministry of Health noted that the toll from Israeli raids targeting Jabalia camp yesterday alone "exceeded 400 martyrs and wounded," and many residents of the targeted residential block are still under the rubble.
