The Peel police have launched an investigation after becoming aware of a post circulating on social media that includes threatening statements against six schools in Brampton.
The police say they first learned of the post on Monday and immediately began a criminal investigation "to verify the threat and identify those responsible."
They added that they are also working with both the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board "to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff."
The police clarified in a statement that "increased security measures will be taken in consultation with the school boards because the safety of our students and school staff is of utmost importance," and added, "Our investigation is still active as we take such threats seriously."
Police did not comment on the nature of the post, merely stating that it contained "threatening remarks" against the mentioned schools.
These schools include Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School, Louise Arbor Secondary School, St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, Brampton Secondary School, Notre Dame Secondary School, and North Park Secondary School.
It is worth noting that four of these schools were also mentioned in a social media post last March that warned of a shooting at six schools in the Peel area. The police did not say whether there might be any link between those threats and this recent investigation.
