Peel Regional Police said that nine people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a woman from a nightclub in Mississauga last August.
According to police, a woman from Toronto visited a nightclub in the Britannia Road East and Dixie Road area on August 24, and shortly before 9 p.m., she was kidnapped and forced into a stolen car. Peel Police said the woman was taken to several locations in Owen Sound before being released in the Toronto area after about 48 hours.
The police stated that the woman was not physically harmed.
On Tuesday, police confirmed that nine people have been arrested in connection with the alleged incident and a warrant has been issued at the national level for another person who has not yet been apprehended.
Kidnapping charges have been laid against 28-year-old Mohammed Habib Nia from Newmarket, 20-year-old Mohammed Khairy from Mississauga, and 22-year-old Daniel Gontcharov from Concord, Ontario. Other individuals include 22-year-old Mohammed Halimi, 35-year-old Aaron Marshall, who has no fixed address, 31-year-old Jessica Proctor from Meaford, 19-year-old Tyshawn Atkins from Oakville, and 46-year-old Darren Macan from Owen Sound.
26-year-old Mohammed Saleh, a man from Mississauga, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact to a serious crime.
22-year-old Karim Khairy, a man from Mississauga, is also wanted in connection with the investigation.
The police have not released any information regarding the possible motive for the kidnapping.
"Search warrants were executed at several residences and vehicles in Owen Sound and throughout the Greater Toronto Area." Peel Police stated in a press release issued on Tuesday that nearly $240,000 worth of drugs and gun storage units with ammunition were seized.
Peel Police confirmed that the investigation was conducted with the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, Owen Sound Police, Hanover Police, and West Grey Police.
