Revolution of the Pen ...

Revolution of the Pen ...

When I wrote my first articles at the beginning of the launch of our honorable newspaper, it was entitled "Canada is the Pearl of the East". Since the beginning, my pen was not trembling; rather, it was proud and reflected a state of a legitimate revolution full of faith, strong enthusiasm, and a sincere wild desire to repay the favor. It was always the language of decisiveness, not a shaky, incoherent language that exposes its speaker like many whose credibility image has gradually collapsed, because discovering the truth usually does not take long or delay until it is reached, even if it took me more than twenty years shrouded with pain and confusion due to blind hatred that besieged me and affected the innocent who are with me in all aspects of their lives. However, I was always firmly believing that I possess the key to the revolution, the revolution of the pen!

Therefore, it was necessary to resort to a sword carrying a human revolution entitled "Enough and the Renaissance must happen" and to move forward confronting everything that is unjust and unfair.

This sword was the media, which represents the authority of truth if practiced in the path of truth and for the sake of truth. From the beginning, I believed that the word must be clear, strong, independent, and direct, and must be neutral, meaning free, and not directed, meaning it should not be hired. Because I believe that the importance of the word lies in how it is presented, I decided not to give it a place in the middle or in the gray area.

The most beautiful definition I read for the word that represents the revolution of the pen was written by the poet, writer, thinker, and playwright Abdel Rahman Al-Sharqawi in his poetic play "Hussein the Rebel," from which I quote this part: "When Al-Walid, the ruler of Medina, asked Hussein to pledge allegiance to Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik, he said to him: We only ask for one word, just say ‘I have pledged allegiance’ and go in peace to the masses of the poor. Just say it and go to save bloodshed. Say it, how easy it is, it is just a word."

Hussein replied, saying: "The word has grown big. Is allegiance not a word? And what is a man's religion but a word? And what is a man's honor but a word? What is the covenant of the Creator but a word? Do you know what the word means? The word is great, for a man's religion is only the word, and a man's honor is only the word, and the covenant of the Lord of the universe is only the word. Do you know the meaning of the word? The key to paradise is a word, and the entrance to hell is a word, and the judgment of the Creator is the word... If the word knew its sanctity, it would be a loaded provision, it is light, and some words are graves."

Therefore, some did not understand that some words are lofty fortresses in which human nobility seeks refuge, and the honest word is the decisive difference between truth and falsehood, and between noble and oppressor. Indeed, the truthful and sincere word is a light that illuminates the darkness of ignorance and reveals the truth. If used wisely and honestly with courage, it elevates societies, and if misused and hijacked to pass distorted ideas, it becomes a sedition and a curse on any society.

Thus, when the free pen writes the word, it is always a fortress for freedom for those who feel it is a trust and responsibility. The honor and status of a man is the word, and how many men do not understand the meaning of the word in this ugly time that has opened the way for such people in the dark of night to violate all human values. But fate willed that the revolution of the pen be the one that writes the word that stands against such mischievous people without violence as they believe and think!

From here, I do not see that everyone who has said a word knows its measure... Therefore, my response to the drummers, clarinet players, pimps, and hired ones will be with a word from a free pen and a clean, sound mind, and neutral and honest media that will be a sword for human dignity.

Why do I say this? Because many are ignorant of the media message and think it is just prestige and fame only, and they do not realize that media has an important and influential ethical message, a message that requires honesty in choosing the appropriate word considering it is one of the most important sources on which the media professional relies to shape collective awareness. We can liken media work to a minefield; therefore, only the honest who are skilled in dealing with all the elements of this profession and its concerns with wisdom, credibility, and balance excel in it.

The true media professional must have capabilities that mimic the challenges surrounding this profession on the one hand, and on the other hand must have a living conscience that beats with faith and readiness to sacrifice time, effort, and money, for the matter is not frivolous or just an uncalculated adventure or a passing tale, or a means of display, as some intruders on this profession mistakenly believe without knowing the details that are absent from their minds and limit it only to sweet talk or the ability to flatter here or there.

Yes, some among us in the Arab diaspora think that the media profession is a slick profession and those who walk its path must master its arts and please this one and that or appease this one or that, or master the art of tickling the feelings of an audience eager to hear information from here and there. In my opinion, all of these did not have continuity or survival from the consequences of abandoning the honor of the profession and appreciating the meaning and requirements of the honesty of the word.

Here, I see that saying has urgent essentials, which are either that we be brothers in this space away from side and malicious quarrels, or everything will collapse, as we are facing an unprecedented historical time phase, to strengthen coexistence, brotherhood, and advance in keeping pace with the technological revolution and moving towards clean energy and artificial intelligence in the world.

This carries with it a real awareness of the dangers surrounding everyone, not only from disease and medicine but also from terrorism and extremism, which hastens the need to support the revolution of the pen that possesses the spirit of responsibility, honesty, feeling, and belonging to place and identity.

From here, I find that the media, with its great importance regarding choosing the influential word and conveying the truth as it is, will have a profound effect in facing such challenges, and it also represents the backbone in confronting the extremist intellectual invasion that prevents this pressing human coexistence.

In the end, I summarize everything I want to say: media is a stormy sea; not every amateur and troublemaker can sail it by just opening a platform here or there.

Therefore, with full belief that there are many energies from the sons of the respectable Arab community that can be invested in, I find hope despite the deliberate and intended confusion and distraction of these energies, which reflect the state of dispersion and fragmentation of the Arab political situation that most of us rejected and reject and we are supposed to have left behind us to build a future that leads the story, draws hope, opens the road, and makes room for everyone to contribute, innovate, and participate constructively, and integrate into societies that preceded us to live in them and with them in security, safety, and peace, but unfortunately, something dwells in us and imprisons us in the name of identity.

I conclude by saying what I previously said in my recent meeting with one of the honorable media outlets, where I called on the members of our Arab community to be well aware that there is an urgent need to renew the discourse and elevate thought since there is no society without leadership. So do not give way to weak, shaky, and decayed leaders in thought who misuse the word and exploit our energies and make our concerns, pains, sufferings, aspirations, and dreams a bridge to achieve their individual interests, thus reinventing gods among us here in the diaspora. So be yourselves, realize yourselves, and excel in your fields in this great country that has granted you all opportunities to advance yourselves and your status. Make room for your minds to discern between the worthless and the valuable. By doing so, you will be the best ambassadors of your identity, culture, and the country you live in and carry its identity and passport, which always deserves from you the best and most beautiful and all giving even if it is limitless.
