The family of Ashraf Al-Taymoumi, as well as his friends, were shocked when they learned of his death. They do not understand what happened to him and what he was doing in the city of Quebec.
The Moroccan student, twenty years old, was found murdered inside a car early Monday afternoon on a road in Stoneham near the capital of Quebec province.
The Quebec Provincial Police (SQ) confirmed that Al-Taymoumi was the victim of a homicide. However, according to the latest available news, the police have not yet been able to confirm whether the crime was committed with a firearm, and the investigation continues.
He was indeed a good young man. (...) I am actually afraid that he was a bit naive and got involved in something bad that unfortunately ended this way. That is the impression we have among friends.
Quoted from Tipoué Boureh, friend of Ashraf Al-Taymoumi
Boureh pointed out that few people had seen Al-Taymoumi recently and that the young Moroccan had begun "disappearing from the internet," especially by deleting his posts on "Instagram."
Boureh and other cycling friends of Al-Taymoumi will pay tribute to his soul in the coming days through a march in the streets of Montreal.
The Moroccan and Maghreb community was also shocked by the news of the murder of the Moroccan student.
It is a shock for us as members of the community, and also for the family and relatives. We cannot explain exactly what happened. He was a shy, quiet boy without any problems. The young man was always smiling. Then we learned that he was killed. It is shocking.
Quoted from Rashid Najahi, journalist at "Atlas Montreal" newspaper
Najahi is very involved in the community in cases of this kind.
"My role is to help the family with the necessary procedures to return the body to Morocco to the deceased's relatives," said Najahi.
Relatives and friends are currently collecting the necessary amount to complete the task.
Ashraf Al-Taymoumi had come to Montreal in 2019 and started a specialization in metal welding at "Teccart Institute" (Institut Teccart) of technology.
After that, he decided to change his field of specialization and began preparing a professional studies diploma in automotive mechanics at the "Aviron Technical Institute" (Institut technique Aviron), also in Montreal.
The young Moroccan was supposed to return to school on Tuesday to start a new semester, but he passed away before that.
