Billy Bishop Airport is scheduled to reopen at 6:45 AM on Sunday after a suspicious package attached to a bike was found late Saturday afternoon at the ferry terminal at Island Airport. The discovery, made just before 4 PM, also prompted the evacuation of three residential buildings at 34 Little Norway, 681 Queens Quay, and 650 Queens Quay (partial evacuation), where the exact number of residents evacuated remains unknown. Also, the ferry terminal and Island Airport were evacuated. Furthermore, Billy Bishop operations were suspended for several hours with departing and arriving flights canceled or rerouted. Additionally, a number of roads inside and around the airport were blocked during the police investigation. In a tweet posted shortly before midnight, Billy Bishop wrote: "The runway has reopened and operations/flights at YTZ will resume at 6:45 AM," and advised travelers to check with their airlines as some flights may have been affected by the closure. Late last night, PortsToronto confirmed that the bike was removed from the area and will be closely examined off-site. Just before 11 PM, the police tweeted on Saturday that a controlled explosion was taking place in the area and residents heard a "loud bang." Later, residents were allowed to return to their homes shortly after midnight. Meanwhile, Toronto police said the roads closed due to the situation (investigation) were reopened in the area at that time, adding that two suspects are currently in custody and being questioned about the incident.
