The United States Geological Survey said that an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck an area in the Pacific Ocean between Central America and the Galapagos Islands on Sunday morning, and no initial reports of damage have been received.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the agency, and the United States National Tsunami Warning Center said that no warnings had been issued about the possibility of a tsunami.
A spokesperson for the civil defense authorities in Panama said they had not received any reports of any impact. Similarly, authorities in Ecuador, of which the Galapagos Islands are a part, have not received any immediate reports of damage caused by the earthquake.
Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4.
