Qatar wins membership in the executive board of UNESCO

Qatar won the highest percentage of votes in the Arab group for membership in the UNESCO Executive Board 2023 - 2027, during the council elections on the sidelines of the organization's General Conference in the capital, Paris.

Qatar received 167 votes in the election results for the electoral group "B" announced by UNESCO.

Through winning membership in the Executive Board, Qatar aims to support international and regional efforts to enhance the role of the organization in its fields of work, and to address common global issues.

Qatar's Ambassador to Paris, Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, said: "Qatar's candidacy and victory in the UNESCO Executive Board reflect its stance towards promoting international understanding and contributing to meeting the needs of all member states, in moving forward to achieve the Sustainable Development Plan 2030."

The ambassador affirmed in a press statement that this victory also reflects the confidence of the international community represented by UNESCO member states in Qatar’s global position in contributing to strengthening education and culture as key drivers of stability in the world and especially the Arab region.

On his part, the Acting Secretary-General of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Ali Abdalrazzaq Al Ma'arfi, pointed out that Qatar's victory in the Executive Board membership confirms its commitment to supporting UNESCO in implementing its programs and activities in all its fields of specialization.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO in Paris, Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab, praised Qatar’s affirmation of its full commitment to implementing the organization's goals and intensifying joint efforts for multilateral work, especially in the current situation witnessed by the world that requires intensified efforts to enhance international security and peace through education, culture, and achieving sustainable development goals through the organization's work tasks.

He said: "This victory reflects Qatar’s position in the Executive Board in terms of decision-making in UNESCO, which is one of the most important United Nations agencies."
