Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said today, Tuesday, that his country received a "positive" response from the Hamas movement regarding a US-sponsored framework agreement that calls for the release of hostages in exchange for a ceasefire in Gaza.
During a press conference in the capital Doha with the US Secretary of State, the Qatari Prime Minister said:
We received a response from Hamas regarding a framework agreement for the exchange of prisoners and detainees, confirming that Hamas' positive response to the framework agreement makes us optimistic.
Abdulrahman Al Thani added that the details of the framework agreement cannot be disclosed at this sensitive time; there will be further negotiations on the details of the agreement with the participation of Egypt and the United States.
For his part, Antony Blinken mentioned:
We are evaluating Hamas' response to the framework exchange agreement, and I will convey that to Israel tomorrow, noting that much work remains to be done, but America continues to believe in the possibility of reaching an agreement.
Blinken said we are focusing on the situation in the Gaza Strip after the war and establishing lasting peace and security in the region, affirming that America is committed to using any truce to continue building on the diplomatic path to move forward toward a just and lasting peace.
Regarding the US attacks on Iran-backed groups, the Secretary of State said the response to the attack on our soldiers a few days ago will continue, and we will do what is necessary to stop any threat against us.
He added, "Our efforts to increase the entry of aid, prevent the escalation of the conflict, and respond to violence prove that we have achieved clear results."
Simultaneously with the press conference, Hamas issued a statement declaring that it has submitted its response regarding the framework agreement to Qatar and Egypt.
It stated that it dealt with the proposal "with a positive spirit ensuring a comprehensive and complete ceasefire."
An official Egyptian source also confirmed that Cairo "received a response from Hamas on the proposed framework concerning the truce in the Gaza Strip."
